"This is a burden, yes, but it's also a gift."
―Caitlin to her children[src]

Caitlin "Cait" Strucker (nee Reynolds) is a nurse at the Community of Mercy Clinic and a member of the Mutant Underground.

Caitlin is the wife of Reed Strucker and the mother of Lauren and Andy Strucker.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Born into a home of three siblings, Caitlin's mother died early into her adulthood. At some point, she met Reed Strucker, married and had two children; Lauren and Andy.

Caitlin's pregnancy with Andy was very difficult, to the point that the doctor recommended that she terminate her pregnancy through abortion or risk the death of her, her child, or possibly even both. But Caitlin refused to give up on her child and still decided to go through with having the baby.

Three years before before the activation of her Caitlin's son, Andy's powers, Caitlin and Lauren were involved in an accident coming home from church. Surfing Caitlin believed it was a miracle, but unknown to Caitlin, her daughter, Lauren had used her powers to save them.

The Gifted[]

"eXposed"[]

Caitlin and her husband, Reed arrived at Belleview Acres High School to address the bullying of their son, Andy. They met with Mr. Baird, who assured them that Belleview had zero tolerance for bullying. However, they noticed a recent change in Andy's behavior, which in return was negatively impacting his grades. Not to mention that he hadn't been sleeping. In situations such as this, Mr. Baird would recommend the C.A.R.E (communicate, adjust, reconcile and empathize) system. Though Caitlin would rather more drastic measure be taken. The bullies were terrorizing her son, and they needed to be handled appropriately. Furthermore, should the school continue to neglect Andy's needs, Reed would sue them into oblivion. After Mr. Baird exited the office to retrieve someone more equipped for the task at hand, Caitlin commented on Reed's aggressive demeanor and scary glaring. Sadly, Reed had to leave soon thereafter as he was called in to interview a suspect at the Garland Detention Center. They exchanged I love you's before kissing him goodbye.

Caitlin and Andy returned home that evening, where they were joined at the dinner table by her daughter and Andy's sister, Lauren. Caitlin asked Lauren if she would still be attending the dance at school that night, offering to show her daughter some of her best moves, which Lauren respectfully declined. She then asked Andy about his day, to which he commented was bad, mostly because she was there. As for his classes, in social studies, they debated over a law to reinforce the testing of people with the X-gene and the right to monitor them. Andy mentioned how a student in the class freaked out because his cousin is a "mutie", forcing Lauren to address just how racist that sounded. Caitlin pointed out the fact that they were fighting over social studies of all things, she was hoping that they could have a normal conversation, but that seemed to be beyond reach.

Later that night, Caitlin learned that Andy was a mutant, and that he was responsible for bringing down the school's gym during another bullying incident. Andy tried to explain for his actions, which resulted in the destruction of the gym, but Caitlin was simply in disbelief. She questioned why there weren't any warnings, to which Lauren explained that that's how mutant powers manifest, in moments of great stress or danger. Reed talked about it constantly, though Caitlin was still confused by Lauren's sudden expertise in the subject. Lauren explained that she is a mutant as well, and that she's the reason that she and and Andy made it out safely.

Lauren reminded Caitlin of an incident from three years ago, when they were coming back from a concert at church, and a truck narrowly missed them. She went on and on for weeks how it was a miracle that they didn't die, but in actuality, it was mutant intervention, Lauren's intervention to be more specific. After realizing that Lauren had been burdened with keeping that secret for the last three years, Caitlin asked her daughter why she never confided in her. Lauren said that she tried but it was difficult, especially with a father that imprisons her kind, though this wasn't entirely true. As Caitlin explained, Reed prosecuted criminals, but this doesn't mean that he is against mutants.

Caitlin then answered the knock at the front door. On the other side was Agent Turner and Agent Weeks of the Sentinel Services, coming to take Andy and Lauren into custody after the mutant related incident at their school, in which the gymnasium was destroyed. Caitlin refused to give her children up without a fight. She informed them that her husband is a prosecutor, which they are already aware of.

Under the amended Patriot Act, it was their job to secure the safety of the community, meaning that Andy and Lauren would have to go with them for the time being, but Caitlin was reluctant in standing by, and just allowing them to take her kids, so she attempted to shut the door on the Agents, but failed as they bypassed her, and knocked her to the ground, which angered Andy, and caused the entire house to shake. As Andy grew angrier, the shaking intensified, forcing the Agents to draw their weapons. However, Lauren obstructed their path with her force fields, which in return bought Caitlin, Andy, and Lauren enough time to escape in the family's van.

After their daring escape, Caitlin stopped at a payphone to inform Reed of recent developments. She told him that while the kids were safe, they weren't attacked by mutants, they are the mutants. In a diner on the outskirts of Atlanta, Caitlin, Andy, Lauren, and Reed discussed their next course of action. Reed asked if anyone was actually hurt and if they instigated the altercation with Andy. Caitlin reminded him that it wasn't a deposition, and that a legal understanding of the matter would do little to help against Sentinel Services. The only reason they got away is because Sentinel Services didn't have enough time to put a full team together. Soon, the pressure would be on. They needed to find some place safe. Caitlin suggested that they stay with her sister, Jenny in Phoenix, but Reed was thinking more along the lines of someplace with less strict mutant laws, like Mexico. As Reed promised to figure something out, Caitlin is pulled closed and comforted by Andy.

The next morning, the Struckers awakened at the Caravan Motel. Caitlin joined Reed by the window, and joked that he may be a mutant as well, nut with a snoring ability. Later in the evening, Reed would be meeting with Eclipse, a powerful mutant and member of the Mutant Underground. Caitlin wondered how great their chances were in making it out. They don't have many options, Reed replied. Caitlin was aware that he was doing the best he could. She'd take one option over none. She then asked Reed if he knew how rough it was on the mutant fugitives who were constantly on the run from Sentinel Services. Reed knew it wasn't easy, but they both remembered how it was with the mutants fighting amongst each other, and innocent people getting hurt in the crossfire. Before long, it was time to move again as a Sentinel Services drone was circling the area. While it couldn't see them from inside the room, it knew the license plate of their vehicle. With that in mind, they woke the kids, and exited motel, stealing a truck in the process.

With everything going as planned, the Struckers met up with Eclipse in an abandoned warehouse facility. From there, Eclipse would get them food, water, and blankets before heading down to the border, though Caitlin refused to go any further until she knows all of what he has planned for her family. Eclipse explained that he knew people down by the border with a specific set of skills, that'll allow them to get people under, over, or even through the wall. Once that is done, they'll get them new IDs. There were also churches of people who would help them. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before they were surrounded by Sentinel Services, and ordered to the ground.

Luckily, Eclipse was not alone. Two of his fellow mutants, Thunderbird and Blink, came to their rescue. The Struckers and the mutants ran throughout the facility in search of an exit, all the while being pursued by Sentinel Services and the Sentinels. Despite their best efforts, they found themselves cornered by the Sentinels. With all hope seemingly lost, Caitlin grabbed Reed's hand as the mutants fended off the attacking robots. Much to their surprise, Blink's ability was teleporting via portals. She managed to create a portal, and hold it open long enough for Thunderbird, Lauren, Caitlin, Eclipse, and Andy to make it through. However, Blink's ability to maintain the portal was wearing thin, and with Reed being attacked on the other end, he ended up being left for capture.

"rX"[]

In the aftermath of the portal closing, Caitlin and her kids, started panicking about leaving Reed behind. John explained that they were in the Mutant Underground's headquarters. As much as John wanted to help the Struckers with going back to retrieve Reed, the chances of them being captured, or worse, killed, was greater. What was within their ability, however, was tending to Clarice, who had overexerted her power to save them from the Sentinel Services, and ended up collapsing, thus shutting the portal she created, forcing Reed to remain on the other side.

As they were moving an unwell Clarice out of the room, they didn't make it far as Clarice was barely able to stand on her own two feet. Marcos then placed her on a bench by the stairs. With the Struckers still panicking about going back for Reed, it didn't seem to be helping, as Marcos told Andy that his father was planning to help him get his girlfriend, Lorna, out of jail, but as much as he wanted Reed there, they couldn't think of that right now.

Later on, Clarice's condition didn't improve, it was only growing increasingly unstable. Lauren called Marcos and John back down as Caitlin informed them that Clarice was in respiratory distress and her temperature was spiking, which meant she needed medical attention that only a hospital could provide. The Long-distance leap and holding her portal open for such an extensive amount of time really took a lot of energy out of her. Caitlin was a nurse, so she examined Clarice noting that her heart rate was faster than normal. Clarice then began convulsing causing her powers to become unstable. As Clarice was going into shock, her powers started to uncontrollably manifest, causing her to involuntarily open a portal to stretch of road where a truck was headed straight for them. As the truck tried to avoid them, it skidded out of control, as half of the truck got sliced off and came careening into the headquarters, prompting everyone to take cover. Clarice didn't manage to move fast enough, so she held onto the handrail of the staircase, her head getting injured in the process.

After helping the others, John carried Clarice to a table in the back of the room by the vault. Marcos asked Caitlin that if she said that Clarice was over-exceeding her powers, how was she able to create a portal? Caitlin admitted that she wasn't an expert in that field. As Clarice started convulsing again, a new portal emerged, opening a path back to the same road as before. Civilians with loaded rifles stood on the other side of the portal looking in. Seeing this, Marcos was prepared for a fight. However, John grabbed his wrist and urged him to show restraint as they weren't to hurt innocent bystanders. Before Marcos could do anything else, Lauren walked in front of them and managed to close the portal using her force shields, thus preventing any possible altercation. This shut down Clarice's powers as she fell unconscious.

Marcos then asked Caitlin if she could help Clarice from Headquarters if they managed to obtain the medicine needed, however, Caitlin stressed that this type of medicine cannot be bought at a local supermarket, she'd have to get in the Pyxis machine from the hospital if they were to have any luck in saving Clarice. Marcos offered to take her to the hospital. He instructed Lauren to use her force shields if Clarice were to make another portal, however, Caitlin was afraid of leaving her daughter so close to the portal, in fear of the bystanders actually managing to shoot her the next time. Lauren reassured her that she could handle it.

Marcos drove with Caitlin towards the hospital. Worried about her kids, Caitlin asked how long the drive would take. Marcos explained that they weren't alone, John may be a tracker, but he was also bulletproof. Caitlin made it clear that she expected Marcos to honor his deal with Reed to get their family out of the country. Marcos mentioned that Reed did try to send his girlfriend, Lorna, to prison. Caitlin defended that Reed was only following the law as a prosecutor but Marcos wondered how Caitlin or Reed would be if it hadn't been Lauren and Andy in that gym but two others. Caitlin had nothing to say after that.

At the South Region Hospital, Marcos and Caitlin arrived. As they looked inside the over-crowded urgent care facility, Caitlin noted that they need an emergency in order to enter the treatment area. Lucky for them, Marcos had a bullet wound from their escape, so Caitlin reopened the wound. They entered the hospital, Marcos holding onto his bullet wound that was dripping with no ordinary blood, his blood was bioluminescent. They used this to his advantage as he convinced the person admitting patients that he desperately needed help.

As Dr. Watkin stitched the bullet wound, he asked what caused this, to which Marcos made up a story about getting injured from a ladder. Skeptical about this, Dr. Watkin took Caitlin outside for a word. She had claimed that she was Marcos' girlfriend and noticing the bruises on her face, that, unbeknownst to him, was the result of Clarice's portal bringing half a truck careening into the headquarters, his immediate assumption was that because she's dating a mutant there's a domestic violence situation at hand. Perhaps for the first time in her life, Caitlin began to realize the degree to which people’s casual prejudices adversely affect mutants. Baffled by this, Caitlin reassured him that this wasn't the case.

After Dr. Watkin left, Caitlin dressed as a nurse and got in the Pyxis machine stealing all the medicine she needed. However, when she was turning to leave the room, she saw Dr. Watkin with two officers. She quickly returned to Marcos and informed him of the police. As they were leaving, the cops appeared, prompting them to flee the hospital with Eclipse using his ability to shoot solar energy from his hands to melt the door behind them.

On their ride back to the headquarters, Marcos explained his backstory. When he was thirteen his powers manifested for the first time and he was kicked out by his parents that very same day. He then went to live on the streets of Bogota, and eventually wound up doing "things he wasn't proud of" to survive. She was shocked that his parents would actually just reject their own child but Marcos told her that she hadn't, and that was something.

When Caitlin and Marcos got back to the base, Caitlin was impacted by a mutant, Pedro, who’s a gatekeeper for the base. His abilities allow him to enhance others' fears. However, Marcos noticed that it was more enhanced than usual. The headquarters was in disarray due to Clarice's unruly abilities, forcing mutants to evacuate. Once they made it past him, they pushed through the chaos of the evacuation to get the medicine to Blink. Caitlin and Marcos quickly advanced toward the entrance meeting Andy and Lauren along the way. As Marcos offered to bring the medicine to Blink, but Caitlin insisted that she go in alone, as she knew just the right amount of dosage Blink needed, and adding too much could make things much worse. She left Marcos to keep her children out of harm's way. Inside the headquarters, the portals had scattered all throughout the building. Seeing a portal with John and an unconscious Clarice on the other side, she jumped through, landing on the sofa next to them. Quickly taking out the medicine from her bag, John assisted her as she stabilized Clarice's potassium levels, which in doing so caused the portals to disappear and immediately relieved Clarice of her pain.

Later, Caitlin sat with her kids as she told them how proud she was of them and that they were going to find Reed, fight for him and for everyone else who had been fighting this fight.

"eXodus"[]

Caitlin watched over a meeting where Marcos tried to rally support to try and get Polaris out of prison. She expressed her concern that the only option that any of them are exploring would be to attack and fight. Marcos reminded her that she had already agreed and accepted that they might need to fight but she insisted that there were other ways that didn't include battles. She tried to ask if any of them had tried to go to a lawyer or even to political sympathizers but Marcos dismissed her words and suggestions as naivety.

She then went off to where her children are playing and overheard them get into a small argument over a game piece that Lauren quickly quells when she explained that their father always uses that game piece when they play. She then made up her mind to go to her brother for help and told her children that she was leaving but they insisted on going as they didn't want to lose her like they did their father. They then quietly snuck away from the Underground Headquarters while everyone else was sleeping.

They spend hours hiking through the city, dodging police cruisers but her daughter pointed out that they couldn't keep doing it or they would get caught and suggested they get a cab. Caitlin reminded them that they had no money for one and their accounts are all frozen. Andy then suggested that he use his powers to get some from a nearby bank. She quickly told him that someone might get hurt and they don't rob banks. When Lauren told Andy that this was about returning to their normal lives, he got angry as they would never have normal lives again. He then released his power and tried to break one parking meter to get some money, but ended up breaking more than intended. He then told them that they now had money for a cab and the "bank was safe".

They got a cab and made it to Daniel's house. Daniel welcomed them into his home and entered the kitchen, where his son Scott was eating some dinner which Daniel shared with the Struckers. Caitlin asked where her brother's wife was and he told her that she was out of town. When her nephew began asking questions about his cousins' activities, Daniel told them to go off to his room so that the two of them could talk. Caitlin started asking if her brother could help them and talk to someone so that they could get Reed out of prison but Daniel told her that he couldn't, as his reputation had suffered due to everything that's happened with Caitlin and her mutant kids. He then told her that he couldn't risk his family but she reminded him that she, her children and her husband were his family too. He tells her that she and her children could spend the night and they could take the money that he had in his safe but they had to leave the following day.

Caitlin heard some commotion coming from her nephew's room and saw that he and her children looked a little tense but Lauren told her that it was all from Andy and Scott roughhousing. She then told them to try and get some rest. Andy quickly asked if Daniel was going to help them and she told them that they would see.

As Caitlin napped on the couch, she was awoken by the surprise arrival of Thunderbird and Eclipse. Eclipse scolded her for leaving and she told him that she was just trying to help her family. Eclipse told her that she couldn't do it by calling in favors and going to the authorities but they were interrupted by Daniel. He was angry that they were there and accused Caitlin of bringing mutants into his home but she sternly told him that the only mutants she brought were his niece and nephew. But the arguing was cut short when they found that the house was surrounded by a small mob of Daniel's neighbors, armed with guns. Daniel thought that Caitlin had told someone that she was coming here but she told him that he hadn't. He started to then accuse Thunderbird and Eclipse of being followed but his son Scott told him that he was to blame. Apparently, Scott had sent a picture of a trophy that Andy used his powers on to a friend but had asked him not to tell anyone.

Daniel then told Caitlin that one of the people outside was Chuck, an old high school friend of hers, and he was demanding that she and her children come out. She was shocked that someone that she had known for near her whole life was leading a mob that wanted to bring in her and her children. Her brother went to try and send them all away but he was attacked and the mob started to move in. She watched as her son used his power to threaten them but Eclipse and Thunderbird moved to get them all out of there. Caitlin saw that her brother was hurt and bleeding but he yelled for her to get out of there. They all got into their van and the mob then moved to go after them.

As they were trying to escape, Caitlin pulled her children's heads down as the mob started to fire on them. Dreamer and Blink then arrived to teleport them to safety. As they arrived back at Headquarters, Caitlin admitted that Eclipse had been right all along. Thunderbird and Eclipse then took her to meet with Daniel out on the road where he was going off to lay low with his son. He apologized for his behavior and offered Caitlin a cabin that he had purchased a while back for her and her children to use but she told him that she had to get Reed back. Daniel then told her that he had made some calls and found that Reed was being taken to a mutant holding facility, even though he wasn't a mutant himself. He told her that she had to accept that she might not see her husband again but she remained adamant that she would get Reed back.

"eXit strategy"[]

Caitlin sat alongside her children as the Underground discussed saving Lorna and Reed. According to John and Marcos, they were being held in a cell at the Sentinel Services Regional Headquarters, and would soon be relocated to an ultra secure facility, which the Underground did not have much insight on beyond the fact that the people who were sent there, never returned, thus forcing their hand in attacking the Sentinel Services head on. However many of the mutants were reluctant in volunteering to help, Sage included as they had lost 6 of their people the last time they went up against the Sentinel Services directly and this time around it was a prison they were attempting to infiltrate, whose systems had improved. Extrapolating from other attacks, Sage predicted the Underground had an 86.5% chance of failure. However, Marcos explained, if they did nothing, then there's was a 100% chance of never seeing Reed or Lorna again. Caitlin pleaded with the Underground for help and Marcos reminded them how Lorna has risked her life for everyone in the room. With that, he asked for a show of hands from those willing to save Lorna. Unfortunately, Sonya, Clarice, and Harry were the only ones willing to help.

Andy's concern for his father grew as almost everyone had bailed and Sage confirmed that chances of saving Reed were minuscule though Lauren was convinced that they would find a way, as was Caitlin, who told Andy that they couldn’t afford to think negatively like that. Caitlin told them that sometimes when taking risks, you had to hope for the best.

Marcos was applauded with how very few were willing to help save Lorna though John told him to understand as a lot of them lost friends the last time they went up against Sentinel Services directly and with only five (John, Marcos, Sonya, Clarice and Harry) of them to break into a prison, Marcos had not the slightest clue how they were to accomplish this. Caitlin then joined in on both the discussion and rescue mission. Making it an even six. Clarice informed them that if there's was a window, she could portal them in, but there would likely be guards and cameras which they would want to avoid. While Harry could cloak himself from the guards, the same could not be said about the cameras. However, all in all going in like that still meant never coming out. Caitlin then suggested that they didnt go in at all, rather they make their move when Lorna and Reed were being transported. While in theory, the idea was plausible, they did not know the transit route. However, Marcos suggested using his connection to the Cartel to gain access on the route. John advised him against it but Marcos pointed that they were out of ideas.

The next day, Caitlin and the others learned from John that Marcos discovered from the Cartel that a convoy of military vehicles was taking Lorna and Reed to a military airport. Based on the route, the best place to hit it would be an old warehouse district off Peachtree. John asked Clarice if she could open a portal. She explained that if the driver could see out, then she could see in, but if the bus was moving, it could get dangerous, meaning they would have to stop the bus. Clarice then suggested that Marcos melt the tires, but Caitlin objected as that would be far from subtle and should that happen, a battle would ensue, in which people would die. Reminding That goal wasn’t just to get Reed and Lorna free, but to also get them out alive. John agreeded that they needed to find another way to stop the bus. Unbeknownst to them, Lauren listened in on the entire discussion.

Sometime after, Lauren and Andy demonstrated their new found combined ability to crush objects on the tire of an old and abandoned cab to John and Caitlin. John was impressed. So much so that he asked if they were capable of doing it from a longer range which they said they could. John pointed out that the best part is that no one would see where it came from. However, Caitlin was against using them as child soldiers to attack a convoy. Howver Lauren pleaded her case with Caitlin reminding her mother that it was her who told them sometimes they have to take risk and that they wanted to fight, no matter what, even if it meant facing trained men with guns as Caitlin had always told her children that there were things worth fighting for and asked her mother if that was all just false bravado talk. While still hesitant, Caitlin agreed to allow them to stop the transport bus, but only if John could guarantee her that Lauren and Andy would not be in harms way which he promised.

The day the convoy arrived, Caitlin, Andy and Lauren got into position on top of one of the rooftops in the warehouse district. While awaiting the convoy's arrival, Lauren noticed her mother struggling with the medical supplies, and offered to help. When Andy mentioned how strangely quiet it was, Lauren solemnly remembered that it was Sunday, which was the same day of the football team's fundraiser breakfast, which she was suppose to make corn muffins for. Darkly pointing out the contrast that stopping a government operated convoy was now the furthest thing from that. Caitlin stood back, watching as the convoy approached. Lauren and Andy prepared to use their combined powers to disengage the transport bus, however, Andy failed to come through on his end. This caused Lauren to motivate him through anger, blaming him for all their problems, which worked, as they mange to stop the bus. Having fulfilled their end of the mission, Caitlin, Lauren and Andy prepared to leave the area.

Caitlin, Andy and Lauren prepared to make their escape when they heard gunshots firing all around the warehouse district as they headed back towards their SUV. Upon arrival, they discovered a Sentinel Services agent examining the vehicle. Lauren attempted to take him out with a shield, but her powers have been deactivated as well, forcing Caitlin to take matters into her own hands. She approached the agent up from behind and injected him with an unknown substance that immediately rendered him unconscious. Caitlin handed Lauren the keys and told her to take the car and go without her as she would be staying to ensure that Reed came back with them but did not want to risk losing the two of them as well. She told them to return to Headquarters and that she'll meet them there with their father. She then shared a hug with her children before parting ways.

Caitlin pulled up in a state issue Sentinel Services vehicle just as Polaris and Reed freed themselves from the prison bus. Lorna, Marcos, John and Reed got into the vehicle. After a quick reunion, Caitlin and the others fled the scene.

"boXed in"[]

Caitlin, Reed, Thunderbird, Eclipse and Polaris pull into their rendezvous point; an abandoned lot. Reed thanks Eclipse for saving him despite having no obligation to, but Eclipse is more concerned with getting out of the open. While Caitlin and Reed embrace after being apart, Polaris, Eclipse and Thunderbird retrieve the untraceable getaway cars they had left nearby. Thunderbird then hears an incoming Sentinel Services drone. Eclipse and Polaris volunteer to draw it away while Thunderbird, Caitlin and Reed head back to Headquarters.

Caitlin, Reed and Thunderbird arrive at Headquarters to find the station crowded with new arrivals. Caitlin informs Reed that they are at the Underground station and that their room is downstairs. Reed wonders about their previous plan to go to Mexico. Caitlin explains that they could never leave him behind. Reed then calls out Andy and Lauren, and they come together as a family. After their reunion, Caitlin and Reed learn from Lauren that Sentinel Services shot Harry. Not long after his arrival is Reed attacked by a mutant named Fade. Fade and Reed exchange blows before the fight is broken up by John. According to him, the last time he and Reed crossed paths, Reed was working for Sentinel Services. Reed admits to wearing a tracker into Fade's bar. He was doing what he had to do to get back to his family. But he realized that what he was doing was wrong, which is why he stopped. Meanwhile, Harry condition worsens as he can be heard groaning in pain throughout the station. Leading Caitlin, Andy and Lauren to take action while Reed tries to make amends.

Caitlin joins Clarice in the vault as she applies pressure to Harry's wounds. Caitlin takes a look at his wounds before instructing Clarice to get her clean gauze and painkillers. Dilaudid, fentanyl, even codeine. Despite Caitlin's efforts, the Struckers are starting to draw a lot of attention. Andy notes how they are being looked at and with that believes that it's time for them to leave the station. Rather than running, Lauren suggests gaining the Underground's trust. Caitlin then calls Andy and Lauren over for help in treating Harry.

Caitlin, Andy and Lauren continue their efforts to save Harry. Unfortunately, they are running out of supplies and what they truly need to possibly save Harry's life is actual blood, during which time Andy offers to donate his blood given that he he is 0-negative, a universal donor. Caitlin then begins the transfusion.

After Reed has agreed to go out on a mission with Fade to lead Sentinel Services away from HQ, Reed says his goodbyes to Caitlin who isn't pleased that he's leaving after they just got him back. But Reed explains that he has to do this to lure the police away as there is nowhere else to go. The Underground needed to know what side he is on, so this is his chance to make it right. Reed gives Caitlin a kiss and tells her to tell the kids that he'll be back by dinner. Caitlin returns to the vault to find that Harry's condition is worsening. They can no longer postpone removing the bullet.

While Caitlin is far from being a surgeon, she has no other choice but to perform the operation. Caitlin tells Lauren to keep pressure on the entry wound while she makes a midline incision to remove the bullet, which had been lodged fairly deep. Caitlin, equipped with a scalpel, slices Harry's stomach open wide. After removing the bullet, Harry begins to bleed profusely. He is hemorrhaging, meaning that an artery must have been cut. Unfortunately, Caitlin isn't capable of stopping the bleeding without a cross-clamp. Lauren suspects that she may be able to stop the bleeding with one of her shields so she asks her mother to show her where the nicked artery is located. After getting the shield in place, Caitlin sews Harry up while Lauren continues to apply pressure via her shield. Thankfully, it seems as if all their efforts have paid off, as Harry will survive. In the process of saving him, they have also earned the trust of the refugees who quietly observe from afar.

Reed returns from his mission with Fade just as Caitlin is preparing dinner for the kids. All four of them sit around the table, enjoying their first meal together as a family in quite some time. Andy asks what is next for them, if they are still going to Mexico since that was the initial plan. However, they won't be leaving the station anytime soon given that it's still unsafe to travel due to the heavy police presence. Reed had also been talking to some of the people around the station who have questions about Sentinel Services, which he can help them with. So, for the time being, they will remain at the Underground, especially considering that they could use all the help they could get.

"got your siX"[]

Caitlin discovers that Skyler, one of the latest mutant refugee arrivals, suffers from high blood pressure. She wonders why that would be. Skyler tells her that he uses his power 2 or 3 times a day. Whenever he has to find food. This has been going on for a couple of years, much to Caitlin's surprise. He and a couple other mutant kids found a place on I-85 until the Sentinels came after them. After sending Skyler off to get some food, Caitlin observes Lorna training another arrival, Naya. She possess the ability to control and manipulate water. Caitlin interrupts to asks what Lorna's intentions are with training them. Lorna replies that she's training them for combat given that they are faced with constant persecution.

The next day, Caitlin watches from the steps as Reed and Andy load up the truck for the mission to the Baton Rouge Federal Building in order to learn more about the Hound program. Reed briefly stops to discuss bringing Andy on the mission with Caitlin. She asks if he is alright with taking Andy. Reed sees it as an opportunity to connect with Andy. "Nothing says "father-son bonding" like breaking into a federal building". Caitlin replies. She understands that this is their best chance, but it doesn't mean she has to like it. After loading up the truck, Caitlin tells Andy to stay close to his dad and she then gives Reed a goodbye kiss. However, she notices that his wedding ring is missing. They took it from Reed while he was in jail. They kiss one more time before parting ways.

While in the supply closet, looking for school books, Shatter offers to help. He finds her the books but wonders what she has in mind with them. Caitlin explains that she's going to start a school for all the refugee kids. As for how they acquired the books, Shatter tells Caitlin that Sentinel Services likes to target families while they're picking their kids up from school to get them all at once.

Caitlin later walks in on Lorna's dangerous training session with Lauren, Wes, Skyler and Naya, in which she hurls sharp objects at them. Caitlin will not stand for it, stepping in front of Lauren, and openly opposing Lorna's dangerous training methods. Lauren begs her mother to participate in the training session, but Caitlin refuses once more, telling Lauren to come with her.

Caitlin runs into Lorna after their last encounter. She understands that Lorna's trying to help the kids, but Caitlin believes that the idea is to give the kids a future. Lives after the fighting. While that is a nice idea, Lorna explains that they will all be fighting for the rest of their lives despite the fact that this isn't what Caitlin wants for Andy and Lauren. Lorna tells Caitlin that Andy and Lauren's powers are incredible. It's way beyond what they normally see. Caitlin states that they need some kind of normalcy, but as far as Lorna is concerned, the station is their normalcy as persecuted mutants.

The next day, Caitlin, Lauren, John and Lorna learn that Marcos, Andy and Reed are headed into an ambush. Despite getting away the first time, Lorna explains that the cops stopped them on their way to Baton Rouge. While they didn't find anything, the driver said he was going to Denver, so they were marked by the tollway cameras when spotted in Baton Rogue. With John failing to come up with a plan, Lauren devised a plan of her own, one that involves Wes creating on of his illusion. Caitlin and John stay behind while Lorna, Lauren, and Wes head out to save Marcos, Reed, and Andy.

Later that night, Reed prepares dinner for the family, during which time, he and Caitlin make jokes and reminisce. She then gives him a replacement wedding ring that she found in the storage room and they kiss. Reed wonders if now would be a good time to have that talk that Caitlin previously spoke of, but she suggests that he talk with Andy first.

"eXtreme measures"[]

Caitlin feeds Zingo while waiting for the kids to return. Lauren and Andy soon make their way downstairs, joining her mother for lunch. Although, she is curious as to what took them so long. Andy says that he couldn't find Lauren, so he looked on the roof, which is off limits, but he then covers for Lauren by saying that he didn't find her there either. When Caitlin asks where was she, Lauren lies and says that she was downstairs in the supply room, where she had lost track of time. Caitlin then reminds them about the homework she had assigned and how she wanted them turned in tomorrow. Neither Lauren nor Andy took her serious when she initially assigned it. Unfortunately, this is the deal they had made with their her. If they wanted to train, they'd have to study as well.

Caitlin teaches a biology class to the young mutant refugees. She teaches them about the passing down of specific traits, much like the X-gene. She halts her teaching to speak with Reed about Wes. Reed tells her that he is almost certain that Wes is in the mutant criminal files for conning people and robbing stores in Cartersville. While Caitlin agrees that this is bad, she tells Reed not to overreact as Lauren has been through a lot lately. Caitlin instructs him to talk to her because she won't be happy about this. The worst thing Reed can do right now is go on the attack.

Lauren returns, supposedly from the basement as some of the refugees needed more towels. However, Caitlin and Reed know this to be a lie. They tell her that they need to talk to her about Wes. Lauren immediately assumes that it's about them not wanting her to date a mutant. But Reed shows her Wes' file that he recovered from the encrypted drive. Lauren reads the file, but she's in denial that Wes has committed the crimes being accused of him. Lauren defends him by pointing out that they've all broken the law. But as Reed points out, they broke the law out of survival. Wes did it out of greed, by conning a jewelry store owner. Lauren realizes that her father hasn't changed a bit. He still assumes the worst of mutants with little to no proof. Reed wants her to look at the situation from clear eyes, but she pleads with him to stop as she walks off teary eyed.

Caitlin joins Reed as he contemplates his approach with Lauren. He never figured they would be arguing over mutant boyfriends. He just wants to protect her. Caitlin and Reed were blind to so much about the world, which is why Lauren hid herself from them. Right now, Caitlin tells Reed that Lauren needs a dad, not a prosecutor. That night, after Reed righted his wrongs, and Andy and Lauren slept, Caitlin and Reed proceeded to make love.

Character traits[]

Caitlin is a very compassionate, caring and level-headed individual. She cares deeply for her children, Lauren and Andy, and will do anything to protect them.

Initially, Caitlin did not accept the fact that her family's life could never return back to the way it was, but after the events of "eXodus", she finally accepted it, as any chance of them having a normal life was destroyed, from the moment that her children, Lauren and Andy were outed as mutants.

Caitlin has a tendency to twist reality to make it more comfortable for herself, for example, she was extremely upset, when her son, Andy left his family for the Hellfire Club, but she was in complete denial, as she didn't want to accept the reality and pretended that Andy was kidnapped by the Hellfire Club.

Six months after Andy's departure, both Reed and Lauren got tired of Caitlin constantly being in denial of the fact that Andy chose to leave his family, and berated her for denying that he left of his own accord and wasn't kidnapped.
