Cassandra "Cassie" Webb, also known as Madame Web, was a paramedic in New York. After being exposed to the venom of an unique spider from the Peruvian Amazonia of Peru to try and cure a rare type of genetic neuromuscular disease, known as myasthenia gravis, Cassandra gained the superhuman power of foresight.
After a confrontation with Ezekiel Sims, who was trying to kill three future Spider-Women before they even got their powers, Cassie was left blinded and paraplegic. Thanks to her powers of astral projection and clairvoyance she was able to continue to help the Spider-Women.
