Columbia University Genetics Lab is a laboratory in Columbia University. It is where its scientists created the Genetically Engineered Super Spiders.
History[]
Spider-Man[]
In 2002, Midtown High School seniors, consisting of Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, Flash Thompson, and Liz Allan, took a field trip to visit the genetics lab and were given a tour by a female scientist. After admiring the genetic experiments they had been working on, including how they combined three genetics from three spiders, into fifteen genetically engineered super spiders, Mary Jane noticed one of the fifteen spiders was missing. Believing that the researchers were working on that spider, the students prepared to leave the lab.
Unknown to everyone and the scientists, that spider had escaped from its container and was on a web high above on one of the pillars. When Peter took several pictures of Mary Jane standing by the spiders' containers, the escaped genetically engineered super spider saw Peter beneath it and saw the opportunity to bite him. After Mary Jane was called away by her friends, the spider silently landed on the back of Peter's right hand and bit it, injecting its mutated venom and DNA inside him. The spider escaped after Peter shook it off in pain when it bit him.
The spider that bit Peter granted him the proportionate powers of a spider after its mutated venom and DNA altered his genetic makeup. Peter later used his newfound powers to become the superhero, Spider-Man, fighting crime in New York City.
