Dorsey is a former police detective of the New York City Police Department.

Dorsey is also the co-worker and a good friend of the late Jackie Albini.

After Jackie's death, the police department led by Dorsey, apprehended several african-american civilians in search of someone who is associated with Luke Cage and might have known where to find him, most other members of the department believed that, Luke had murdered Jackie, but he was actually murdered by Luke's paternal half-brother, Willis Stryker. But the apprehension process was a form of assault, harassment and racial discrimination simultaneously.

After an associate of Luke, Lonnie Wilson was brought in for questioning, by Dorsey. But Lonnie had refused to answer any of Dorsey's questions, regarding Luke's whereabouts, without his lawyer present, who also happens to be his mother, Patricia Wilson. Since Dorsey didn't have a warrant to question Lonnie or any legal rights to hold him there at the police station, Lonnie's refusal to answer any questions was, within his rights.

Dorsey, who became enraged, by Lonnie's refusal to answer his questions, as well as for rightfully disrespecting and insulting him. He then physically assault Lonnie in attempt to force him to reveal Luke's whereabouts, but unfortunately, Dorsey's actions had completely backfired on him. As a result, Dorsey was instantly restrained and arrested, by his co-workers, and suspended, by the deputy chief, Priscilla Ridley for illegally assaulting a minor.

After it was, proven that, Willis was the one, who had actually murdered Jackie, not Luke, Dorsey and the entire police department were publicly humiliated, due to the fact that, the department had tried to capture and arrest Luke Cage based on the grounds of his first name, "Luke", which is in fact a common name. Also the witness they were interrogating had only heard Willis state his first name as "Luke", but he never heard Willis state his surname as "Cage".

Dorsey was ultimately fired from his department, by the police board for committing crimes of assault, harassment and racial discrimination. Although Dorsey believed at the time that, Luke responsible for his friend, Jackie's death, but that, was still no excuse for breaking the law or crossing several more lines, in the process.
