- Dr. Stephen Strange crashed his car with his girlfriend, Dr. Christine Palmer in it, killing Christine. In his grief, Strange traveled to Kamar-Taj and learned the Mystic Arts. There, he discovered the Eye of Agamotto, which could manipulate time, but was warned by the Ancient One and Wong that doing so could destroy reality. (What If...? 1.04)
- 2018
- Strange repeatedly used the Eye to rewind time to prevent Christine's death, but she died in every scenario. The Ancient One told Strange that Christine's death was an "absolute point" in the timeline that cannot be undone, but Strange refused to listen. Using the power of the Dark Dimension, the Ancient One split the timeline into two, one where Strange absorbed beings and became an evil version of himself called Strange Supreme, and another where Strange accepted Christine's death. (What If...? 1.04)
- The Ancient One recruited the latter Strange to fight the former and save the world. However, Strange Supreme overpowered the good Strange and absorbed him. Using his absorbed power, Strange Supreme resurrected Christine, tearing apart reality. Strange Supreme begged The Watcher for help, but the Watcher refused to intervene, as Christine died again and the universe collapsed, leaving Strange to grieve alone in oblivion. (What If...? 1.04)
- Unable to defeat Ultron alone, the Watcher went to Doctor Strange's collapsed universe to asked Strange for help. (What If...? 1.08)
- With Ultron no longer a threat to the multiverse, the Watcher brought Strange back to own universe. Strange assigned himself to watch over and guard the pocket dimension that held Erik Killmonger and Arnim Zola. (What If...? 1.09)

- Strange began kidnapping universe killers and righteous heroes both to restore his universe using the Forge. Although defeated by Peggy Carter and Kahhori, Strange fell into the Forge himself and restored his universe at the cost of his own life.
