Elaine was approached by Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr to discuss matters regarding her daughter, Jean.

Dark Phoenix
In 1975 While driving with her husband and daughter the family listened to music on the radio which Jean kept changing with unknowst to them mutant powers of telepathy. Unable to control them Jean caused the family car to crash into another one. Killing Elaine on impact but leaving Jean and her father alive.
