The Eternal Flame was one of Odin's trophies in the vault.
Thor: Ragnarok[]
Hela used the Eternal Flame to resurrect her allies including Fenris Wolf. After realizing that they needed to cause Ragnarök to stop Hela, Thor ordered Loki to use the Eternal Flame to resurrect the fire demon Surtur to fulfil the prophecy. After stealing the Tesseract, Loki threw Surtur's Crown into the Eternal Flame, resurrecting him bigger and more powerful than ever to destroy Asgard and everything on it.

The Eternal Flame can give life to the deceased and make Fire Demons (namely Surtur) much more powerful.
