Doctor Strange suddenly emerged from a portal and congratulated Kahhori on bringing world peace in record time, quipping that he was sure that that would last. Strange introduced himself to Kahhori, stating that he'd been looking for her for a long time.

Strange was revealed to have begun imprisoning universe killers and righteous heroes both, intending to sacrifice them to the Forge in order to resurrect his universe. After learning the truth from Kahhori, Peggy Carter battled her old friend to stop him, releasing Strange's prisoners and donning the Infinity Armor taken from King Killmonger. However, Peggy and Kahhori proved to be no match for Strange, even with the help of the Infinity Stones, so several prisoners tossed the two women their weapons and magical items. Consumed by his grief, Strange transformed into a demonic beast, but Peggy managed to restore Strange to himself briefly by punching him with the Infinity Stones as the Forge began to overload. Coming back to his senses for a moment, Strange admitted that he couldn't stop it as his grief was too strong and had grown beyond his control. Strange was consumed by the demonic beast again and tackled Peggy into the Forge, but she was able to break free and grab a ledge. As the beast tried to blast Peggy, Strange partially emerged from it and restrained the beast from attacking his friend and allowed them both to fall into the Forge, killing him.
Peggy and Kahhori were rescued from the explosion by the Watcher, who revealed that Strange had succeeded in restoring both his universe and Christine Palmer in the end at the cost of his own life. Peggy and the Watcher mourned their friend's death and the Watcher told Peggy that she had still seen the good in Strange, which, in the end, had conquered his demons and saved his world.
