Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the sequel to Venom and the second instalment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe which finds Eddie Brock and Venom battling Cletus Kasady.
Plot[]
In 1996, a young Cletus Kasady falls in love with Frances Barrison at a children's home before she is taken away to the Ravencroft Institute. On the way, she uses her sonic scream powers to escape and attacks a young police officer Mulligan. He shoots Barrison in the eye and suffers injury to his ear. Unbeknown to Mulligan, who believes he killed her, Barrison is taken to the facility, which is hardened against her powers.
In the present, Mulligan, now as a detective, contacts Eddie Brock to speak to Kasady, who has become a serial killer and refuses to talk to anyone other than him. After the visit, Kasady is sentenced to lethal injection, and Brock is invited to his execution. However, Venom is provoked to attack Kasady via insults towards Brock, including one about his deceased mother. This leads Kasady to bite Brock's hand, ingesting a small part of the symbiote. Brock is escorted out of the prison as Kasady yells out that there was something different about Brock's blood.
Brock is contacted by his ex-fiancée Anne Weying, who tells him that she is now engaged to Dr. Dan Lewis.
Kasady's execution fails as a Red Symbiote emerges and blocks the injection. It introduces himself as Carnage and goes on a violent rampage through the prison, freeing inmates and killing the guards. He then turns into a tornado and captures the Warden and brutally kills him, while asking for his last words. Kasady and Carnage then make a deal - Carnage will help Kasady break out Barrison from Ravencroft and Kasady will help him to eliminate Venom. Mulligan calls Brock and warns him about the situation. Venom emerges and tries to eat Mulligan, before Eddie pulls him away. Eddie furiously ask him why he tried eating Mulligan, to which Venom responds that "he can't live like this anymore", and detaches from his body; they both go their different ways. In Ravencroft, Kasady frees Barrison and they travel to their old children's home, burning it down.
Mulligan, who suspects Brock due to his interaction with Kasady before Carnage emerged, takes Brock to his police station. Brock refuses to answer Mulligan's questions and contacts Weying as his lawyer. Brock reveals that Venom has separated from him and needs the symbiote to fight Carnage together. As Venom makes his way through San Francisco by hopping from body to body, Weying finds and convinces him to forgive Brock. She bonds with Venom and breaks Brock out of the police station. Brock and Venom bond again after the latter apologizes.
Kasady takes Mulligan hostage, and Weying is captured by Barrison after she fails to find Brock. Barrison gives Lewis information on Weying's whereabouts, and he gives it to Brock. Kasady and Barrison plan to get married at a cathedral, where Venom appears and fights Carnage. Barrison apparently kills Mulligan with her sonic powers. Venom is unable to beat Carnage but learns that he and Kasady are not a cohesive team as Carnage attacks Barrison for using her powers. Venom provokes Barrison to use her powers again. Her sonic blast causes both symbiotes to separate from their hosts as the cathedral collapses. Barrison is killed by a falling church bell. Venom saves Brock by bonding with him before the impact. Carnage tries to bond with Kasady again, but Venom eats the symbiote, killing him. Kasady implores Brock that he just wanted to be like him, but Brock lets Venom eat Kasady's head.
As Brock, Venom, Weying, and Lewis escape, Mulligan is shown to have survived Barrison's attack. His eyes flash blue, revealing that he now has powers of Toxin after he absorbed some parts of Carnage, while commenting about how they were monsters. Brock and Venom decide to take a tropical vacation, where they wonder what the next steps for them will be.
In a post-credits scene, Venom tells Brock about symbiotes' knowledge of other universes, but they are suddenly transported by a blinding light from their hotel room to an unfamiliar room where they watch a Daily Bugle broadcast of J. Jonah Jameson revealing Spider-Man's identity as Peter Parker.
