- "So the chip in the back of Doc's neck was designed to protect his brain from the AI system that's controlling these tentacles."
- ―Peter Parker[src]
The Inhibitor Chip is a device created by Peter Parker that allows a variant of Otto Octavius to maintain full control over his tentacles, despite their AI.
History[]
Spider-Man: No Way Home[]
After Otto Octavius was pulled into an alternate universe from shortly before his death, that universe's Peter Parker attempted to cure him and the other universe-displaced villains in order to give them a second chance once they returned to their own universes. Studying a scan of Octavius, Peter discovered the destroyed inhibitor chip and quickly deduced that it was responsible for Octavius' condition. Using a Stark Industries Fabricator, Peter was able to construct a new more advanced inhibitor chip for Octavius, impressing Norman Osborn so much that he jokingly offered Peter a job at Oscorp. Despite Octavius' protests, Peter was able to implant the new inhibitor chip, causing Octavius to lose consciousness for a moment. When Octavius regained consciousness, he had full control of his mechanical arms once again and was amazed to be alone in his head once again, a feeling that he'd almost forgotten. A grateful Octavius then offered his help in curing the others.
When the Green Goblin, whose persona had taken control of Norman's body, convinced the other villains to turn against Peter, Electro hit Octavius with a massive blast of electricity, stating that he'd liked him better before. When Octavius appeared at the Statue of Liberty, he had apparently become Doctor Octopus again, but it was revealed that this was all an act, his new inhibitor chip having survived the blast. Octavius was later returned to his own universe with the inhibitor chip by Stephen Strange, giving him a chance at a better fate.
