Mjölnir is an enchanted hammer and the primary weapon of Thor Odinson. It grants Thor the ability to fly and summon lightning against his foes.

History[]

Avengers: Endgame[]

While time traveling to gather the Infinity Stones, Thor Odinson took Mjölnir from 2013 while retrieving the Aether. Thor, having fallen into a depression, was excited by the fact that Mjölnir still found him worthy which helped to lift Thor's spirits. When Thor summoned Mjölnir, it left Rocket confused before Frigga explained that it could take a minute to arrive.

During the final battle with Thanos, Thor lost Mjölnir and was nearly killed by Thanos with Stormbreaker only to have Steve Rogers save him with the hammer. Thor was excited by Rogers' ability to wield Mjölnir which also granted Steve the power to call upon lightning strikes as Thor could. With Mjölnir's power, Steve was able to destroy Thanos' helmet, but was unable to defeat Thanos on his own. Throughout the battle, Steve wielded Mjölnir while Thor used Stormbreaker, though at one point Thor dual-wielded both weapons against Thanos. At another point of the battle, to get the Nano Gauntlet to Scott Lang, Steve threw Mjölnir through the air while Peter Parker webbed himself to it, allowing the hammer to drag him a fair distance across the battlefield.

After Thanos' defeat, Steve returned the Mjölnir and the Infinity Stones to their original time periods.

Overview[]

Capabilities[]

  • Physical Augmentation: Mjölnir can amplify the physical attributes of other non-extra-terrestrial beings to immense superhuman levels, this was demonstrated when Captain America wielded Mjölnir against the 2014 Thanos, as his strength was almost on par with the Titan's.
  • Weather Control: Wielding Mjönir grants Thor the ability to control the base elements of a storm. In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers could use this power as well while wielding Mjölnir, calling upon a massive lightning strike from the sky to blast Thanos into the ground.
  • Invulnerability: Due to Mjölnir being comprised of Uru, it is almost completely indestructible. It was able to withstand strikes from the 2014 Thanos' double-edged sword which had previously smashed Captain America's Vibranium shield.
  • Mystical Link: Mjölnir has a mystical link to its wielder, obeying the wielder's commands and coming to them when called. While this originally appeared to only extend to Thor, when Steve Rogers proved to be worthy of using the hammer in Avengers: Endgame, it obeyed his commands in the exact same way, flying into Rogers' hand on command.
