Roberto DaCosta, also known as Sunspot, is a mutant with the ability to absorb solar energy and channel it for superhuman strength, flight, and infrared radiation.

Original Timeline
X2: X-Men United
DaCosta's name appeared on a list of mutants on Col. Stryker's computer when it was accessed by Mystique.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Sunspot joined up with fellow mutant survivors Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Bishop, Blink, Colossus, and Warpath and formed a plan to survive; whenever they were discovered by the Sentinels they would send Bishop's consciousness back in time a few days to warn them of the attack and then retreat to another location. While defending Kitty and Bishop he was grabbed by one of the Sentinels, frozen and choked to death.They met up with Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Wolverine and Storm in China. While Kitty sent Logan's mind back in time, Sunspot and the other X-Men fought off the Sentinels when they arrived. While Storm and Magneto destroyed most of them, dozens still remained. Sunspot flew around, setting Sentinels on fire but they eventually cut off one of his arms and impaled him through the back by another and thrown away.

- Sunspot was originally planned to appear in X-Men: First Class but the character was written out.
- Adan Canto previously costarred alongside fellow X-Men Series cast members Kevin Bacon (Sebastian Shaw) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) in the first season of the TV series The Following in 2013.
