Dr. Stephen Strange is the new Sorcerer Supreme and the leader of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, who defends the Earth against mystical threats.
Biography[]
Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme[]
Stephen grew up with his sister, April Strange; who he had a very close relationship with. However, she grew sick and when the doctors claimed she couldn't be helped he became a doctor to perform the operation himself. However, she died during the operation and he blamed himself. He later became an arrogant but highly qualified doctor who didn't care much for other people. He became more concerned with money and reputation than helping people. He worked with a Gina Atwater but they fought often on their ideologies.
One day he saw a group of sorcerers fighting a Chenoo but dismissed as an illusion. That night he was driving home when he saw the ghostly image of Camille Carranza, a patient he refused to help. The image caused him to crash. When he awoke he found that his hands had been badly damaged and he could no longer use them, thus he could no longer work.
He then traveled the world seeking doctors who could help restore his hands, though none could. Stephen then tried to kill himself but one of the sorcerers, Wong saved him. He told Stephen to head to Tibet for help.
Stephen did and found Wong who introduced him to The Ancient One and Mordo. Stephen expected a quick fix but they promised spiritual guidance. They had him perform menial tasks until he got fed up and left. Ancient One then told Stephen that his sister's death wasn't his fault and began to teach him sorcery.
Mordo tried to teach him but his anger almost killed him. Wong saved him and took over his training. Stephen was then taken to the Sanctum Sanctorum where he learned of Dormammu.
The sorcerers then fought against Dormammu's forces but Mordo turned against them. Ancient One and many of the sorcerers were killed. Stephen then confronted Mordo and easily beat him, but Dormammu killed him. Stephen and Dormammu fought and he eventually absorbed the demon.
Stephen then apologized to Gina in a dream. Then he went back to the Sanctorum with Wong who told him about Clea.
Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer's Apprentice[]
At the Sanctum Sanctorum, Doctor Strange sensed that four of Dormammu's Shadow Hounds are loose in New York City. The Eye of Agommoto then senses that Strange's apprentice Clea is eavesdropping on them. As Clea entered the room she says that she is ready to fight alongside Doctor Strange and Wong. Wong disagreed but Strange told Clea that even though she isn't ready to fight alongside them, she should see the monsters they face.
Later, as Doctor Strange and Wong fought the Shadow Hounds, Clea watched from a rooftop. Strange and Wong defeated three of the Shadow Hounds but the fourth one attacked Clea. When Doctor Strange and Wong went to the rooftop where they left Clea they saw that she was missing. By using a spell Wong discovered that Clea had been bitten by the Shadow Hound and that the Shadow Hound's venom might have corrupted her with Dormammu's dark magic. Wong told Doctor Strange that Dormammu's corruption will compel Clea to return to the Sanctum Sanctorum to destroy it. If Clea is captured at the Sanctum she can be helped there.
Doctor Strange quickly located Clea and stops her from killing a civilian. However, Clea had several mystical creatures attack Doctor Strange and Wong. Clea then attacked Doctor Strange personally. However, Strange was able to use his magic to purge Dormammu's corruption from her body.
The next morning Clea awakened in the Sanctum Sanctorum and apologized to Doctor Strange for failing him. Doctor Strange replied that it was his fault because he knew she wasn't ready but took her with them anyways. An upset Clea says that she wasn't born with the same greatness that Doctor Strange has and that she doesn't belong with them. However, Doctor Strange told Clea that he wasn't always the Sorcerer Supreme and that it took much loss and failures before he found his place in the world. Doctor Strange then decided to tell Clea the story of how he became the Sorcerer Supreme.
